thanks to you with so much knowlege. You have given me such valuable help about my house fire crisis.. One more question, hope someone knows. I lost all my belongings. My house is unlivable. My policy advanced me 10.000 dollars which is an advance from my contents settlement. the representative told me to pay the hotel out of that money. Then the insurance group would reimburse me as they do not pay the hotel directly. That sounds like a lot of money, but I I have been paying the hotel one thousand dollars at a time. but I have been in the hotel over 3 months and they only this week came through with the amount they will pay to rebuild to make the house livable. So it is not my fault I am in the hotel I expect my stay will be a lot longer. Trouble is, my contents money is disappearing like ice in July. Does it sound right to you that I have to pay the hotel (which isnt cheap) out of my contents replacement money? also I dont quite understand how the settlement for my contents is arrived upon. I know they depreciate my contents. BUT, now I am told by the representative that after they depreciate, they also adjust (down) of course, what they consider replacement cost. (as I understand this for example, if the insurance says my sofa is worth 900 dollars but is 5 years old they may only give me 200 dollars. Of course they know u cannot buy a new sofa for that amount. So at first I understood when I paid for the new sofa they would pay me the extra 700. Now Im hearing that they review again, and if they decide a new sofa can be paid for for 600 dollars they would only pay me 400 dollars… it seems like double talk and I dont understand it at all. I hired a private insurance adjustor that showed up actually while my house was burning down. I was in a neighbors kitchen, stunned. It seemed like a good idea and he showed me a stack of names and addresses that gave favorable references. So I signed on. The investigator is very stressed and because of all the claims put in for roof collapses, etc because of the terrible weather conditions ,, this has been the worst winter I remember, so some of this is valid,, but I still cant seem to grasp how this works.. I am a senior lady who is still a nervous wreck and homeless. You on this site have been a Godsend.. thank you and magnify you for you expert help, You are so smart…
