Patrons watch (as best they can) every move retail staff makes with their cards. All the while, software companies and on-line providers now provide a means to report on-line scams. I got one this morning. It’s a familiar one that I get quite often warning me that my on-line Banking for Bank of America has been limited until they can verify my information. That would be a curious threat that might garner my attention if I were actually a Bank of America customer… I’m not. I always report these heartfelt, fear mongering queries as spam… and they continue to pelt me with crap–demonstrating that their mischief has gone unanswered.
Despite all of the hoopla surrounding these cyber rip-offs, precious little seems to be happening to stop them. Has anyone else besides me wondered if the Banks and Credit Card companies are making so much on the protection money we’re paying that they’d rather take the hit on rip-offs and allow the con artists to promote their scheme than for them to actually put a stop to it?

I rented a house through a real estate agent in July 2009 with my lease ending in July 2010. I signed a lease stating that if rent was late at anytime that I would be required to pay a $25.00 late fee on that rent. No big deal. Since living in the home I have had what I like to call “revolving roommates.” I have rented out to other rooms and have had new roommates in and out since living at the residence. I am the only person on the lease.

I had gotten behind on rent after evicting a roommate for failure to pay their rent. Suddenly, my late fees changed from $25.00, then to an additional $50.00 a few days later. Putting the late fees now at $75.00. I asked the agent why these fees had increased and she stated it was in my lease. I told her that in my lease these items where not present. She sent me a copy of my lease in PDF format Online and the lease she sent me is different from the original lease I have in my hands.

She went back into the lease and added in additional fees and clauses that were in blank space on the lease in handwriting. However, the copy I have has all these spaces blank with both our signatures on it. Therefore, she has went in and added these new things into the lease after I signed it. I have the original lease as proof.

This same landlord has also refused to take care of an on-going mold problem in the home which I have been complaining about since we moved in July.

Right now I need to know what my legal rights are. I have been told that due to her altering the lease without the my knowledge that she has made the lease null and void. Is this true? I’m curious as what I can do in this matter.

I have actually already moved out of the residence and am in a new place with stable landlords. Any advice would be appreciated.

If I do go the online or financial institution way, if the car is listed as 15K, will that include taxes and what not or would that be seperate?

I work in NYC, and reside in upstate NY. I believe the jurisdiction might be NYC because I receive the emails on my work account.

During the last year, I have received over 200 emails from my first husband. I have asked him several times to contact me only to make handover arrangements, which he has ignored. Most of these emails contain allegations about my care our daughter, or accusations. He was violent during our marriage and I have sole custody of our daughter. Recently, the volume and tone of the emails was creating so much stress that I requested him to contact my husband instead. He has also refused, even though my husband is very polite and prompt in responding to emails that need a response. Many of them are still accusing or complaining. I have stopped responding or reading the emails at all.

The distress this creates is indescribable. I am happily remarried with three younger children. This impacts our entire family.

I understand that with cyberstalking, there must be context and multiple strands of bullying or harassment, so I’ve listed below *some* the rest of what is going on.

1. He filed upwards of a dozen separate small lawsuits in the UK Family Court (all with language around “punishing” the mother) and has filed close to a dozen in the US since 2004. He attempted to retain Mary on an access visit in January 2006, for example, saying she was abused. These petitions typically get thrown out. The law guardian, all three court psychologists, our pastors, friends and her teachers have ALL stated that she receives excellent care and is very happy and attached to me and our family.
2. He calls my parents to threaten them. In March he threatened to send the FBI after me, because his answering machine was broken so he was not aware that my daughter had been making calls to him as required by our custody order. We are very firm with her about having the contact the order requires, because we think it is important.
3. He tells our daughter things like, “I’m going to put your mommy in jail” His live-in girlfriend makes statements to her such as “I don’t like children” and “I don’t want any children, they are too much trouble”.
4. In one of the more recent attempts to get custody, he alleged that I was insane, so all three of us saw a court-appointed psychiatrist. She concluded that everyone was mentally fit and that my daughter has no issues with the father-daughter relationship (the current custody case alleges she is “alienated”). In almost all of the custody petitions, he claims that the issues (he perceives) with my daughter are because I’m “damaging” their relationship; he doesn’t recognize any of his behavior might be contributing. She has requested to be picked up early several times, and last visit refused to go. She has been left alone in the hotel room several times while he goes to the hotel bar to drink. I certainly hope that our efforts to encourage contact and speak politely about her father are supportive – we are not trying to alienate her or damage this relationship.
5. He follows and monitors my online activity. For example, he included in his court paperwork published articles that have appeared in local forums, such as the CEC (Charismatic Episcopal Church) website and the local paper’s website. As he is based in the UK, these aren’t “local” sites for him and he has no reason to go to them barring to look for me.

Is this cyberstalking, and if it is, what do I do about it? Is this a civil case (like a harassment case) or is this a criminal case?

Seven singers remain in the competition, but according to the fan buzz and the oddsmakers, "Idol" is nothing but a two-horse race.

Seven singers remain in the competition, but according to the fan buzz and the oddsmakers, “Idol” is nothing but a two-horse race.

Crystal Bowersox — the inventive, guitar-wielding single mom — and Lee DeWyze — the raspy-voiced, disarmingly handsome kid from suburban Chicago — are being touted as shoo-ins for the final two come May.

“Should he make it to the finals, which is a decent possibility, DeWyze is probably the only one who can defeat Crystal,” writes Shayne Zucker, one of the scores of chronic “Idol” bloggers who are predicting a Crystal-Lee finale.

TOP TWO: Crystal Bowersox has been the favorite “Idol” contestant since early on, but Lee DeWyze in recent weeks has cemented a place in the final, say oddsmakers.

Yesterday, even Entertainment Weekly’s TV blogger wrote that the ending of this year’s “Idol” seems pre-ordained.

“With six weeks left in the competition, do any of the five remaining challengers to the Bowersox-DeWyze Supremacy have a chance to make it to Nokia?” the magazine wrote, referring to the Nokia theater in Hollywood where the “Idol” finale is staged.

For their part, the online oddsmakers this week are calling Bowersox the even-money favorite to win — and DeWyze the second favorite (tied with Casey James) at 2½-to-1.

That is, of course, if Bowersox stays on the show until the finale.

Last Friday came word that Crystal was wavering on her commitment to the show and was terribly homesick for her 1-year-old son, who she’d left behind with her parents in Ohio.

According to several Internet reports, Crystal was making plans to leave the show but was talked out of it by host Ryan Seacrest in a parking lot pow-wow two weeks ago.

Those reports have not been confirmed, but they somehow seem to strike the right note in a season that has been most memorable for its promised endings.

This will be Simon Cowell’s final year as well as several other insiders on the 9-year-old talent show.

Ratings have slipped in recent years — but more worrisome is that the show has seemed boring and predictable without a stand-out personality for fans to love or hate.

via NYPOST…

Lol, more predictions coming from every direction…. Who will be? Who…who.. who and more who? Lol.. lol.. think.. think..

I worked for a major company for two years, and then was fired.

I worked for a major company for two years, and then was fired. My mom signed me up for unemployment compensation, but accidentally used the wrong social security number–it was the social security number of my deceased brother. She mistook his SSN for my SSN, and filed out legal papers and everything. She couldn’t figure out why they weren’t taking my number. She gave me the number to log-in Online with after she’d filed a few claims for me. Now I’ve been receiving workers compensation, but under the wrong SSN.

The second part of my dilemma is that soon after being fired, I got married and moved to California. The unemployment benefits I am receiving are for Washington, D.C. where I previously worked. Soon, I then tried getting a job here in California. I got hired at a company, but they only employed me for thirty days. During that time I received no benefits from D.C. After the 30 days when the California company decided they weren’t going to hire me permanently, I didn’t know what to do. I then reinstated the D.C. unemployment benefits after the 30 days because I still didn’t have a job. Is that illegal? What should I do? Should I immediately inform D.C. about my SSN? I am innocent and scared I’m doing something wrong. I want to right my wrongs. Is it still legal for me to be receiving workers compensation?

DMV is the biggest thief in Virginia.

DMV is the biggest thief in Virginia. My situation is strange. I sold a vehicle March 21, 2009. It was not operational at the time. The engine blew out on the side of highway 58. I called one of those Cash for cars folks, who came and picked up the car. I signed the title over to them. 8 months later I get pulled over. The office notifies me that my license is suspended. When I go to DMV they tell me it is because I didnt have insurance on a 94 Pontiac Grand Prix on June 25, 2009(which I signed the title over to the cash for cars folks). I track down the person I sold the car to and get a notarized letter stating vehicle, VIN, and date of sale and return to DMV. At that time I am notified that the vehicle has been demolished and because of that DMV cannot alter the vehicles records. Now in order to get my license back I have to pay 500 uninsured motorist fee on a vehicle I didnt even own, drive or otherwise. While at the DMV I am told to file for a hearing, which I do, and the online application states I will recieve notice of the hearing within 5 business days. 6 weeks later I have heard nothing and I face 10 days in JAIL due to new laws in VA because of a vehicle I HAVE NOT OWNED SINCE MARCH! What can I do? I cannot believe this state. I am seriously considering filing legal actions due to this issue. It has affected my employment, ability to go anywhere, and now has the ability to affect my freedom. Any suggestions? I cannot come up with 500 to pay this fee and wait two years to have it refunded.

Hello,

I’m 21 years old and my younger sister, who is eleven, has indicated that she wants to come live with me. Our parents got a divorce last January, and at that point our already distant/paycheck parent of a father became a totally non-existent paycheck father. He is not a part of my life, or that of my two younger sisters. (The second of the younger sisters is almost 18, so she is “almost free”, as she says.

My mother, who has full custody of the eleven year old, is and has been for as long as I can remember, an emotionally and mentally abusive parent. I know that on at least two occasions, CPS has been called on her. Once less than a year ago. I don’t know by whom, or what their reasons were, but I do know that it happened. The first time they showed up at our front door, and the second time I got a phone call from another family member (aunt) who had been contacted.

I am living in Arizona, where I moved shortly after I was “free”, from Pennsylvania where my mother and sisters still reside. I have a stable, well paying job, and despite the abuse (and thanks to therapy), I am emotionally and mentally stable, and in my opinion, far more fit to raise my sister than my mother is.

My sister is currently doing the online schooling thing, and previously she was homeschooled. She has never been to public school (I was homeschooled from fourth grade till graduation). I am able and willing to continue the online schooling, or to resume homeschooling my sister, so removing my sister from PA to AZ would not be a problem in that regard.

My questions are:

How can I prove that my mother is not mentally or emotionally fit to continue raising my sister?

How can I ensure that I get custody of my sister?

Would the child support my father pays my mother be redirected to me if I were to get custody?

What steps would I need to take to make this happen?

Thank you.
