British tourist with ‘drinking in public’ ticket- paid late
Hello all I am a British citizen who visited New York last year and stupidly did not brush up on the laws around drinking in public, and got myself a ticket for it. I managed to get a friend to pay it by cheque, but I was 4 days later than the 10 days it states the 'plead guilty by mail' must be sent by. My question is- does my late payment mean I have committed a criminal offence?

Paying for Law Enforcement…
I just found out that here in Salt Lake City we are going to have to help pay for law enforcement. And it's not just what comes out of our taxes. We are going to be sent a bill every 3 months of $58, starting next month. And if we don't pay this bill it will be assessed a 10% late payment penalty. And if we refuse to pay it, there could be a lien placed on our property. It's not like we don't already have a ton of bills that we can't pay! I never heard of any of this until we got a little booklet in the mail the other day explaining it. Unbelievable!!! :smileymad: Do any of you have to do this? Now, don't get me wrong. I understand that the police need to be paid for their services. But there must be other programs they could pull this money from instead of forcing us to pay another bill that we can't afford. Am I being unreasonable about this?
