Lots of states have done this. Changing what exists is always difficult. The legislators of Virginia are responding to what the people want. In this case, the people do not want to be forced to pay for health insurance, just in case they want to opt out. They don’t understand that insuring everyone is a prerequisite for not denying individuals (or payments) based on preexisting conditions.
Plus, everyone knows if your life is really in danger, you will not be denied treatment. It’s horribly inefficient, but that’s the status quo, and it’s difficult to change it.

GIVE THANKS to the “Blue Dog Democrats” holding the line. They are the last of our breed, and have been sidelined by socialists for a long time ever since the Socialist Party of America decided to use the Democrat Party as their face and front to America (public record, look it up).

When you are young….under 28 years old, you are ignorant about politics and feel sorry for the poor people. Between the ages of 29 to 40 you start to realize that how much of your pay check goes to the gov’t to pay for all those lazy rear end individuals that think that the gov’t should be taking care of them. Between 41 to 55 you start getting active in politics and wanting to change how the gov’t works but feel that you can’t make a difference because special interest and BIG business control the Federal Gov’t. Then between the age of 55 to 65 you finally realize that the gov’t is full of a bunch of liars, cheats, hypocrites and you don’t give a darn about what anyone thinks about you being outspoken about the politicians. Then between the age of 65 to 100 your body starts to fail you and gov’t and insurance companies decide that you have become too expensive to upkeep. At this time you have the most free time to volunteer, as well as to donate money to campaigns. Look at all the town hall meetings this summer. Did you notice all the senior citizens at these meetings?
