I recently stayed at a hotel in Atlanta and broke the 42″ plasma TV, I checked out fine and had agreed with the GM, but not in writing that I would pay off the TV ($ 950) by August 30th.
My question though is shouldn’t the hotels incidental insurance cover it? My credit card was not billed, but since I am still a college student the GM agreed to allow me to pay for it via cashier’s checks or money orders over 3 months.
Just want to know my options, legally.
charges for damage of tv in room hotel damage charge for a tv hotel tv damages cost
If you caused the damages, accidentally or otherwise, you are responsible to reimburse the hotel for its loss. You might check your credit card to see if there is possibly some sort of insurance included with the card which would help pay the costs.
Barring such coverage, you can expect to pay for the TV set. If you do not pay as agreed, you will probably find the charges assessed to your credit card. Yes, they can do so.
Hotels reserve the right to charge you for any damage done to the room or it’s contents. Your legal option is to pay for the TV and they are being generous by allowing payments. If you don’t pay the bill it will go to collections where it would cost you more to fight, with a good chance of loosing.
The hotel will not file with the insurance company as it is most likely less than their deductible even if they have insurance that will cover guest damage.
