If I buy it it’ll only be for 3,500 so I was expecting insurance to be cheap, I just don’t know about the “custom” aspect of it.

1980 chevy luv blue book

  1. Yes. My brother had a hot rod with shaved doors etc. here in NC. It was a chevy low rider. They insured it for below what he felt it was “worth” and he paid a much higher premium than I did for my more expensive car with more replacement value coverage…I think it was about 3x higher…..

  2. Your 1980 truck is not going to have an “blue book” value, so if you want to get collision insurance for it, you’re probably going to need to get a appraised. Generally speaking, if the a car is over 7-10 years old, unless it’s a “collectible, insurance companies will probably “total it” for just about any semi major damage as it would “cost more than it’s worth” to fix it. +

Frankly, if it were me, I’d only get insurance for liability and medical and skip the collision insurance on the truck itself since it’s only 3500 to buy and it’s so old. I did a quick web search and used 1980 luv trucks are 500-$ 1000 – there was one selling for a huge amount – $ 10,000 but it was major customized with tons of stuff like engine work and what not.

Even so, unless you specifically tell the insurance company the value of the all “add-ons” they’re only going to provide insurance on stock vehicle.

  3. Many companies won’t insure it and those who will, will require an appraisal first. It will be pretty expensive. If it is worth just $ 3500.00 you may want to consider putting just liability coverage on it. But instead of asking here, speak with an insurance agent because there are several ways to go about this. He can best advise you
