driving a car in usa being a uk citizen?

i know its really hard to buy one yourself being a uk citizen on holiday etc, but could you not get a u.s citizen to buy a car and then use that to travel in, in america? would you still need a permanent address? and what about insurance? thanks

The insurance and permanent address is the biggest problem you will face. If you have friends that live in the US they could buy and insure the car in their name and let you use it on a temporary basis and then sell it once you return home. After that is done you could reimburse them for any expenses including loss of value. Good Luck
