A friend of mine took a defensive-driving course last year, she is 46 yrs old and got her license last summer. The day she passed her road test, her beloved put her on his insurance plan as a secondary driver, and it only cost him another $ twelve a month. I’m 38 yrs old, have just taken the same defensive-driving course and got my license this week. When my beloved called his insurance company to have me listed, they quoted him a small fortune to have me as a secondary driver. I wasn’t with him when he spoke to his broker; I was hoping to get some advice or reasoning regarding this.

I’d also like to know if anyone could tell me how much more they have paid for insurance after listing a secondary driver. I have to say that it’s extremely discouraging to have paid so much for this course, then find out that I can’t drive the only car that’s available to me unless I pay nearly $ 400 dollars in fees until his policy renews… in just over a month! Wow! Apparently when it renews, the policy will change, and then it will be much cheaper, but not until then… WTF?

I should add that I’m from Nova Scotia, Canada… because rates and laws vary from region to region. Here, anyone can drive my b/f’s car so long as they do not live in the same household… so my friends could drive his car, but I can’t. Frustrating!!!!

 

There have been a lot of suspicous activity going on in my neighborhood lately. Two of my neighbors have had their homes burglarized and one has had his car stolen.

Why did bush order 440 billion in loans to high risk people? Did you know his campagin finance authority owns the biggest homebuilder – ryland homes – and another top donar owns the largest subprime mortgate attorney in the usa. And don’t forget his cousin, herbert walker, ran the credit default insurance scams at goldman sachs.

Looks like all of bush’s buddies got filthy rich from the 440 billion he ordered. Do you agree?

 

I had a homeowner’s claim for water damage to my laminate flooring. I did submit a claim and had a check be sent to me within weeks for $ 1800. I had a few local contractors come and and estimate work costs. It was 2-3x’s the amount of the original payment to me.

Coincidently one of the contractors is a contracted installer for my insurance plan. They went ahead and notified the insurance Allstate of the low payment ect.

Well now here is where I am left. Allstate approved the estimate from the installers for $ 2844.00 and requested to move forward.

I have been to the contractors shop 2x’s now to select the flooring and tile for my condo. The last time I was told by the contractor that there is nothing cheap enough to do the job that they originally sent the estimate on….

meaning the contractors are NOT going to honor thier original estimate. I was told that the job would cost me $ 2000 out of pocket on top of and beyond what the insurance would pay.

Suggestions? I am thinking about cashing out and having a smaller contractor do it for me and maybe save a few bucks.

 

I’ve consulted my insurance company about insuring my personal property and said I need a renters insurance, but I own my home. I am confused. Isn’t it what I need is a homeowners insurance? or renters insurance applies with owning a home too?

I’m starting a home-based life and health insurance brokerage and I’ll also offer wealth management services. My overhead will be low, but I want to invest some start-up capital in additional training for myself, as well as marketing my business. The main concern I have is that my grandpa invested $ 20k in my dad’s failed business over twenty years ago, and it’s made holiday gatherings very awkward. I plan on paying back the capital I need to start ($ 6500), but it may take 3 years or more if the business starts more slowly than I anticipate. 1) How should I go about requesting start-up funding?; and 2) If it’s granted, how should I set up the repayment arrangement? As a loan, or should I give the investor a stake in the company? What are the legal ramifications of the latter since he is not licensed to sell life and health insurance (is it considered sharing commission if he receives income from the business)?

I was asking for advice on one particular issue, NOT life advice.

To rebut:

1) I did not say I did not have any cash. I have the equivalent of what I need stashed away in an online ING account, for emergencies. I’d rather not touch that to start a business. My IRA and 401(k) assets are tied up, too, being that there are substantial penalties and taxes for withdrawing those funds. An IRA can be used to fund a business, I know, but the amount I need is small enough that the cost of setting that up properly outweighs the benefit.

2) I have 2 years experience with a top-rated carrier as a captive representative (I know it’s not your 21, but it’s longer than 6 months, so I guess I’m in the 5%) I’m LUTC and FSS, working on my CFP. Don’t assume, because you know what that makes us, don’t you? I’m LUTC and FSS, working on my CFP.

3. I’m not talking about giving commissions to an unlicensed person, I’m curious to the legality of paying out PROFITS.
4. No one will let me attorney their products if I’m green? That’s not so. After I left the company I was captive with, I immediately became appointed with 4 health carriers. I had never written health business before. Now I attorney business with 8 carriers, writing life, health, disability and ltc part time.

You clearly have no idea who I am, I’d strongly suggest minding your own business – build up your attitude and make it positive and encouraging (did I mention, I’ve read your other answers, and you’re equally insulting to others?), and learn how to answer the question at hand.
You clearly don’t treat your clients like you treat folks on this site, or you wouldn’t have been successful for 21+ years. Start encouraging inquisitive people and give positive advice. People ask questions not because they are dumb, but because they don’t know. Educate them, don’t throw it back in their faces. Telling someone that they’re “likely to fail” is not encouraging.

For that third child’s sake, please learn some tact. Hopefully, all of your drivel is just the hormones talking.

 

I live in Houston and I had to pay 950.00 to have all these limbs taken off my house and hauled away. Then, over a year later another one of his trees, a DEAD one, pennyless a piece off and it demolished my 2 yr. old metal and vinyl storage shed, and a weed eater and the floor in there is getting rained on. Structurally, just replacing the roof wouldn’t work because the pieces will no longer fit. I am going to take him to small claims court and wonder if anyone can give me advice? I had no insurance and he won’t tell me who he has his through.
