two years ago i had contacted my home owners insurance about my roof leaks. They came out and said that there wasn’t anything they could do because it was caused from wear and tear, since then we have done a few minor repairs, because funds haven’t been there to do major. We had a huge gas line leak in 2009 that cost us over 4000 to fix. Then hubby lost his job 2 months later. We have been struggling to get on our feet. With taxes this year we had intended to have someone come out and repair it. We have an estimate and everything. Just waiting for the money. Well yesterday here in arizona there were some major winds.. i think they said 75 mph. This process has torn the roof off of the add on. and before we could get up there to tarp it, the rain came. the ceiling has collapsed and water is everywhere. I called my insurance company. The adjuster was an a++. he started to belittle me for not having the roof completely repaired in the last 2 yrs. and wanted to know if i had replaced anyceilingg tiles in the playroom (add on). when i told him i only replaced two major ones, he seemed to get more pissy. Where do they think i have the money from? im fixing it little by little. Will my insurance cover this? how do i ensure that it does? My daughters bed is ruined, and so are some of their unopened christmas toys that were down there. What are the proper steps i need to take or move up to make sure this is covered?

My Mom owns two trailer size homes twenty feet from each other side by side on the same property and are connected by the same sewer line. Due to the cold winters here, the pipes, even though insulated, froze and busted. Also the heat. In a month both homes will become unlivable if the sewer and heat aren’t fixed. Will home owners insurance cover it?

I have a moving business and it is getting slow because of the slump in the housing market, so i am trying to get a contract with the government or any insurance company to cover the expenses and make some profit.

We have a “enclosed patio” that we were using for a den and now the whole room is demolished due to flooding. I filed with our homeowners insurance and the adjuster said that there was previous flooding ….rotten wood etc. The insurace company only gave us a third of what we need to repair the WHOLE room. $ 2,300 deductible. The sellers disclosure says no flooding so do i go to court? Who has a copy of the inspector’s report besides me? Isn’t this a violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act for failing to disclose a material fact? We’ve also have had to replace water heater, dishwasher, and plumbing, which all was good in the seller’s disclosure.

i live in michigan. weve had heavy rain for 3 days our roof leaked around a venf (the one that runs on the same pipes as the toilets) all the way to the basement. the attic is wet on the inside as well as some of the wood around the vent there was water on the basement floor. basement is not finished so thats not a big deal, but im worried about the attic being wet as well as inbetween the walls where the vent is. do you think if there is damage to inside of the walls my homeowners will cover it?

the roof is older, but we have not had ploblems from it before these storms.

We had damage from hurricane Ike. We had an adjuster come out and we need a whole new roof, new carpet, we are arguing over the tile (it is ceramic and came unglued from the floor and they do not want to pay us for it), we need ceiling repair and a new fence. We received a payment from Texas Windstorm which is not enough to make all the repairs. We have been arguing with the adjuster and his supervisor on trying to get all the money we need to complete repairs. I have been told we will receive supplements but how do we go about this? I faxed bids to repair my home to the adjuster and he had yet to say whether or not he will give us more money. Yet we were informed by our insurance company we have 120 days to get the work complete. It has been over thirty days already. I do not want to hire someone to work and then not be means to pay them. ANY advice would be much appreciated.

I’m a Florida Resident. I will be overseas for a year and will have a POD (portable on demand storage unit) come load up my stuff and take it to their warehouse. I will not have a house so will not have homeowners or renters insurance which I can add too. Insurance offered by PODS is quite expensive and not very inclusive. Thanks!
PODS is definitely not the cheaper option, just easier than loading and unloading a truck twice.
Thanks to all of those who answer. I will not be keeping a legal residence. My DMV mail will be going to a friend’s house per the tax collectors suggestion but I will not be renting for the year I’m gone.
PS I do currently have rental insurance now. Many companies are still giving that in Florida just not homeowners. They can’t give me a storage rider though.

I am a twenty-six year old, fully functioning, working, female adult who just happens to have a Bipolar I diagnosis that I got at the age of twenty-one while still in college.

It so happens that I was on my parents healthcare until the age of 23, and then was uninsured. I have had several high paying jobs with group benefits since then, but I recently quit the last one to return home to help an ailing family member with a family business. Because it is a company of under 6 people, there is no group insurance plan.

I have money and am proud that I earn my own wages. I have NO problems paying ridiculous amounts for health insurance, provided that they will cover prescriptions and everything but co-pays. My current insurance plan is crap and will not cover any psychiatric treatment, will only cover regular medical expenses (broken arm, stitches, etc) after I’ve paid $ 500 out of my own pocket, and no prescriptions.

I have applied (and been denied) for health insurance already from: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Humana, United, and a couple of other major health insurance agencies. They all reject me immediately because of the Bipolar I diagnosis.

I have appealed this rejection a few times because I have never been hospitalized as an inpatient, I have never hurt myself, etc. It seems very unfair to me that they randomly reject me without viewing my case file. My psychiatrist is even willing to write a letter on my behalf and I have had insurance agents personally appeal to underwriting, to no avail. I have had NO problems with my disorder since I’ve been medicated, which was December of 2003.

Any suggestions here? I really need health insurance… at some point I’d like to have children, and nevermind the fact that I just want to be covered in case of emergency.

Thanks!
Some additional details: I *did* qualify for COBRA and paid it, the last payment they did not receive in the mail so they cancelled me. I appealed it several times and lost it.

My state does have a high risk pool but I was told I did not qualify. Any more information on this is appreciated.

I make too much money to qualify for Medicare or prescription assistance.

Thanks!

I share a joint bank account with my son who was the only name on a lease at our old commercial leased property. Late last year, after flooding of the property and insurance claims, the landlord refused to accept rent and began an unlawful detainer complaint. Although the judge actually sided with the landlord because, regardless, we did not have proof of having paid rent. The attorney for the landlord went on to file a lien on the name of my son, who was the name on the lease agreement, also placing a lien on my account. What can I do? Does this fall under any Wrongful Lien Statutes? Defamation? I am drafting a NOTICE OF INTENT TO FILE SUIT opposite the landlord and want to know, even though I probably will not necessary seek them, what all my options are which I can include into my notice.
I am out of the County of Los Angeles in California.

Thank you!
Also, want to know if any of this matters when the lien was filed without any notice to myself too.
