I recently wanted to get a better rate for my house insurance because my beloved and I were on the same policy from before and he had a repo that raised our rate almost 300 bucks (even after fourteen years with the same company and not one claim), rediculious. I’ve been calling around and it seems each company has a reason to quote a high rate or refuse coverage. 1 says we have to many cars on our property (all are registered and currently insured elsewhere), 2 says we have too many chihuahuas and will not insure us, 3 says our on top of ground pool is a danger (even though it is under lock and key, 4 says they won’t insure me as a stay at home caregiver to a disabled parent. What can I do without being screwed. I have owned homes for eighteen years now and never once had a claim yet my rates continues to sore, why, why, why???
Thanks mbrcatz,
Our dogs are ours and not breaders or rescues, they are ours and we love all and they are all fixed. Your right on the pool and a great observation, the cars are all used, all run, we only drive two at any 1 time so I still don’t see your point there. I have cared for my mom since age eight and it is not a business at all it is my life.
In FL we pay up to $ 6,000 per year for a 3-2 house twenty-five miles from the coast , do you think CA will be looking at a 5-7 fold increase as well?Do you think the congress will intervene?
Let’s say,for instance,a PITBULL jumped a 5 foot fence, grabbed your dog,by the neck, and dragged him twenty yards and wouldn’t let go. Well, this all happened to me today,ON CHRISTMAS. I was outside, letting my rat terrier use the restroom, when all of a sudden, the neighbors pitbull jumped their fence and attacked my dog. We had to get the law involved and took our dog to the emergency vet clinic. After checking out dog out,it was in best interest that we put him to sleep because he had a large gash on his neck and lost alot of blood,a damaged rib, punctured lung, and an enlarged heart. Poor thing was defenseless. The kicker is,this isn’t our first rodeo with their dog jumping the fence. He has done this about 7 times now,but luckily our dogs were in their cages, but this time, one wasnt, and he paid the price. I wanted the dog taken away, but the K-9 deputy was taking up for the pitbull, saying it wasn’t the dog’s fault. The neighbors said that their dog never bit anyone and wasnt aggressive. I told them to go take a look inside the burial box and tell me that an assertive dog didnt do that to my dog. The deputy also said that any dog can turn on you, even a chihuahua. I told him, with all do respect, let a chihuahua punch you on the leg,and let a pit bull punch you in the same spot, and SEE the difference.I told him that if a chihuahua jumped the fence and attacked my dog,it would still be alive right now. He didnt have to much to say after that. He did write the owner a citation, and the owner is responsible for the dogs medical bills, but is there anything else I can do. We live in Louisiana. Pitbulls are not banned here, but most home owner insurances wont cover you with that multiply of dog. Also, there is no leash law in our city. If they dont get rid of the dog, what can I do?
He has jumped the fence numerous times, but I’m not sure if he’s ever bit anyone/anything. I dont want the dog near us. I’m not moving. Either they get rid of the dog or they will have a lawsuit.
If that dog bit me or my wife,I’d own everything they have
GSD,we have done something. We talked to the owner first, that didnt work. We called the law and they said they couldnt do anything if the dont wasnt acting agressive toward anyone. And yes,it could all have been prevented,if they had restrained their dog
I know there are some pit bull lovers/owners here. To be honest,I’ve always hated them. Now I have even more reason to. And to say that a pitbull is just like “any other dog” There are two labs on the other side of us,and all of my dogs play with them and they are as gentile as can be. The guy across the street has a great dane and he minds his own business
The fence that was jumped is their fence,we dont have one. They put up a fence when we were moving there because their dogs were always in our yard
Like I said before, If a chihuahua would have jumped the fence and attacked my dog,it would still be alive right now, sitting on my lap sleeping. Now,he’s buried. Got it?
Oh,believe me,this WILL be all over the media. But its not because it’s a pit,it’s because MY DOG IS DEAD. Just so happen that it’s a pitbull and now they will have an even worse reputation.
CApitlvr,I understand and I’ve honestly never seen my rat terrier go after anything. My wife has a hamster in the house and she lets it run and our rat terrier just would run up to it and sniff. But whats next? What if that was one of my nieces or nephews in the yard? I dont want their dog dead, but I want it GONE
and building a 6 foot fence that their dog has jumped SEVERAL time and we’ve discussed it with them. They were quick to pay the medical bills because their pit bulls arent covered through their homeowners insurance, which is a law in our state.
I’m just curious because there is an old deserted hospital said to be haunted here and I was wondering if I would be means to buy it for a future home. Would they be cheaper to buy than a code new house? Please don’t include how much it would take to remodel a place like that. Thanks!
are abandoned buildings cheaperWell I think the title pretty much says it all. I paid for 1 year of renters insurance about 6 months ago and now I am not planning on flying much for the next few months. Can I cancel this insurance and get part of my money back? If not can I tell AOPA to stop my coverage now and start it again say 5 months from now?
Thanks for any comments
I was innate in 1985, so I’m Generation Y. All I can say is that it sucks. I was I was innate earlier, like 10-15 years earlier.
Even though I’ve saved a heck of a lot of money, I know I will never own my own home. If I was 8 years older and had the money saved that I have now, I would only have needed to steal say $ 100,000 for a decent, 2-3 bedroom house. Nowdays, if I want to get a DECENT house, I need to steal in excess of $ 300,000, $ 220,000 if I want to settle for a sh!tbox.
I’m really scared and angry because everything is so expensive now! I was just in the supermarket (I live in Australia BTW) and I was going to buy a bag of potato chips. I don’t eat them that often, but enjoy them on occasion. I was shocked to find that they were asking $ 2.99 for a measly 125g bag of chips! Over the last year and a half, I’ve watched the price increase from $ 1.79 to $ 2.99 and the bag size DECREASE from 250g…to 225g…to 200g…to 185g…to 175g and now 125g. So from this I can assume that within the next year, I’ll be paying around $ 4 for a 75g bag of chips. It’s insane!
And it’s not only that, but everything else. Cars, petrol, insurance, other groceries. I really am scared. This generation has it tough.
Why are things the way they are? Surely the bubble has to burst sometime. I know my brother and a lot of other workers who were in construction got laid off because no one was buying houses because they couldn’t afford to. I know that when my parents paid for a house, it was 2-3 times the prices of their annual salary, nowadays houses are 8-10 times the annual salary. It sucks.
Does this generation have it the toughest? Who here is scared and angry? Will the bubble burst, and if so, how long before it does?
My home sustained some damaged due to a snow fall back in december. I didn’t file a claim back then and now that I got some shingles damaged due to strong wind i would like to file a claim. I was told that i might need to file 2 seperate claims. Would it make a big difference if i put it all under just one claim instead of filing 2 seperate ones?
My mom is buying a condo and i wanted to know what insurance company do you recommend… im clueless about insurance and i needed a suggestion. Are there any tips you recommend to someone who is looking for homeowner’s insurance? Anything i should be aware of?
Even with dropping oil prices shipping cost have gone up 20% in 2009 from China. It now costs 15% more then the value of a product or 115% to ship from China. If oil went up to $ 90 a barrel as expected and maritime insurance rates continue to rise it will have risen in cost 37% in 2009 to import from China. This trend is proved by loss in exports almost the as last year for China. My company for example has had relocate 3 plants to Georgia from Mexico because of unrest and the high labor cost believe it or not. The Mexican government made us give the workers 3 meals a day, housing, transport to work, and $ 6 an hour which cost us $ 4700 a month per worker because their family got the perks to. The other factor that gad come back is insurance companies now evaluate third world risks and our building insurance was twice what it is in Georgia. These factors are putting blue collar industries on boats back because insurance rates and shipping costs are eating up profits.
